So at the Lord’s command Moses sent these men from the Desert of Paran. 25 Forty days later, they came back from exploring the land. 26 They gave their report and showed them the fruit from the land. Caleb said, “Let’s go now and take possession of the land. We should be more than able to conquer it.” 31 But the men who had gone with him said, “We can’t attack those people! They’re too strong for us!” They said, “The land we explored is one that devours those who live there. All the people we saw there are very tall. We felt as small as grasshoppers, and that’s how we must have looked to them.” Numbers 13: 24-33
On the other hand the minority, Joshua and Caleb, saw things differently. They said, “We are well able to take this land!” They weren’t affected by what they saw. Their lens saw victory; their lens saw what God had promised. Not only that but they also saw that He said that HIS power would conquer the Canaanites. Caleb & Joshua saw God’s promises and saw things through Him. What a difference! It was their perspectives that made the difference.
- Notice that it was all about their sight. Did anyone ever stop to ask, “What about God’s sight?” How did God view these giants?
The proper and right perspective as someone once said, “Don’t show God your problems, show your problems your God!”
- Listen, the things we perceive to be true, determine the way we respond to the world around us and to God who lives within us. So CHOOSE THEPERSPECTIVE WITH WHICH YOU DEFINE LIFE EVENTS. Choose God’s sight and perspective.
Notice that the ten spies saw themselves as grasshoppers with their own lens, and Joshua and Caleb saw themselves as conquerors through God’s Lens and perspective.
- Guess who entered the Promised Land? Definitely not the grasshoppers.
